Our goal is to connect LGBTQ folks to food, agriculture, and to carve out a safe space in rural community. So that all people can feel connected to the land their food comes from

The Farmer

Jayne Henson

Our story is one that begins with exclusion, and injustice. Growing up in rural Kansas as part of an agriculture family, coming to terms with my identity as a trans-woman was filled with fear, ridicule, depression and sadness.

Rural life and agriculture did not feel like a healthy, safe, and welcoming environment for someone like me to grow and flourish in. The wide open spaces and endless horizons of perfect rectangles of field grown corn, wheat, and soybeans felt like anything but opportunity.

After transitioning I quickly left rural life in search of community and acceptance in New York City... and I found it. Finding a community of like minded people helped me learn who I am, without feeling the shame of being different. However some of us are city folks, and some of us are not (or maybe that ideology is just another construct... who knows), and I am a country girl at heart. My heart yearns for the air and my hands reach for the dirt, and farming is magic. The act of growing food connects us to the natural world and to each other in a way that is unique. Creating sustenance, and strength from the energies of nature should be a right of all humans, and those of us who take up this mantle should not feel excluded from it because of our gender identity, sexuality, race, class, or physical ability.

Here at TransGenerational farm our goal is to connect LGBTQ folks, and others who are traditionally excluded from farming to agriculture. We dedicate ourselves to providing access to healthy produce, grown through responsible regenerative practices. We seek to do what we can to shake the yoke of capitalism that tethers us to our limitations, so that our roots can grow deep and uphold one another.

Our Market Stands

We offer a wide selection of fresh seasonal produce, grown in our field and in our high tunnel. We never use conventional pesticides and we use only natural fertilizers and compost.

We operate on a permanent bed/reduced tillage system, employing the use of cover crops, and mulch for weed control, fertility management, and erosion prevention.

Also unlike many organic farms we do not use disposable plastic mulch which creates excessive plastic waste. Instead we opt for reusable landscape fabric to help warm the soil in our beds and keep our weeds under control.

Food Access

Here at TransGenerational farm we are committed to increasing access to healthy local food for all people, and that includes folks that need a little financial help. Customers at our market stand are welcome to use EBT/SNAP benefits to pay for produce, and once a month our market stand operates on suggested pricing. We are also working to create a CSA scholarship program for those who would like to join our CSA but find the price to be a barrier. We cannot offer this programming without community support so if you would like to donate to our programs we would greatly appreciate it!!
